It was another free deal, and they were coming at 6 to pick up a large, heavy piece of furniture. The man I had been communicating with was in his mid-twenties, very likable and gentle spirited. He asked his dad to come and help load the piece because it was large and awkward. In all my years I have not met someone as proud and harsh as his dad. Usually when around someone new, most have a more socially acceptable behavior. Not this man. If that was his good side, I can’t imagine his bad side. I felt so sorry for the young man. If the dad was like that with me, how much worse he must be in private.

The flesh is ugly, lustful, depraved, and in love with self. There is a degree of training that can go on to conform it to more socially acceptable behavior, but underneath it is still ugly. The only thing that will fix it is a new man, born again in the Lord Jesus Christ.

“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness” (Ephesians 4:21-24).

Once saved, there is more that must be done. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2). To renew our mind, takes an entire renovation/remodel. We fill our minds with the Word everyday, confess wrong actions/speech and fellowship with those who seek to live out Christ.

P.S. The dad shut me down quickly as I edged in spiritually, but the son willingly took my tract.
